No. 840. - Mace is the second coat, or aril, which covers the nutmeg ; a thin and membranaceous substance, of an oleaginous nature and yellowish color, being in flakes, divided into many ramifications. It has an agreeable aromatic taste, not being as bitter as the nutmeg. It is much used for culinary purposes, in pastry and in distilling liquors, and can be obtained in flakes or ground.
