Beat 1 cup sugar and 3 tablespoons of melted butter until it creams, then 2 eggs, saving the white of 1 egg for filling, 1/2 cup of sweet milk, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, sifted with 2 cups of flour, flavor with lemon and beat until very light; bake in two layers, put together with boiled frosting and sliced bananas.

Whites of 7 eggs, yolks of 5, l 1/4 cup sugar, 1 cup flour, teaspoon cream of tartar, a pinch of salt, added to whites of eggs before whipping, flavor to taste. Sift, measure and set aside flour and sugar. Whip eggs to a foam, add cream of tartar and whip until very stiff, add sugar to the whites, and beat in, then yolks beaten very stiff, then flavor and beat flour to be folded lightly through. Bake in moderate oven 30 to 40 minutes.
Grate rind 1 lemon, add juice, 1 egg, 1 cup sugar (white) 4 tablespoons cold water; mix well together and cook over steam until clear.
