Flour improves with age and costs much less bought by the barrel. Whole spice, of every variety, is as necessary as ground. A bottle of Halford sauce or mushroom catsup will last years for flavoring gravies. The store-room should, if possible, contain mustard, pepper, rice, tapioca, maccaroni, vinegar, coffee, tea, sugar, chocolate, pearl barley, etc.
