The Silver Variegated Euonymus, the Chinese Honeysuckle, and Variegated Periwinkle, are all first-rate hardy edging plants, and bear the knife well. They can be easily propagated from cuttings in August in cold frames or hand-glasses.

Convallaria Majalis (Lily Of The Valley)

Although rather late to appear in flower, no list of spring flowers would be complete without this elegant and sweet universal favourite. It is one of the very few cultivated plants which have held an unassailable position in the estimation of the public, notwithstanding the changes of fashion.

Correspondent, Portree

The saddle is considered one of the very best forms of boilers, and certainly we do not advise you to take it out. There must be something connected with the arrangement of the pipes, or the flues round the boiler, but what the fault is we cannot say unless you send us a correct plan of the pipes and boiler, or describe them. A very small saddle-boiler would heat four times 120 feet of pipes.

Cottager

The most useful for your purpose would be Lord Suffield, Stirling Castle, King of the Pippins, Blenheim Pippin.

Cowan's Lime Kiln Heating

On Saturday, this system of heating was commenced and tested at Niddrie House, near Edinburgh, in the presence of a number of the leading gardeners of Scotland, and the working of the system was considered a great success. 2000 lbs. of pipes were heated with great steadiness, and satisfaction to the large number of inspectors. Having already illustrated and described the system, we will not here enter into details.

Crocus Imperatonius

A very distinct and pretty species, flowering when the weather is favourable about Christmas. The flowers are lilac, buff, and purple.

Cucumus

There are several sorts of Cucumbers that force well in winter. We prefer Telegraph to any we know.

Cultivation Of Fruit Trees

Rivers's 'Miniature Fruit-garden' would probably suit you, or Thomson's ' Gardener's Assistant,' or the English translation of De Bruill, by Wardle. The name of this Correspondent has been unfortunately mislaid.

Cultivation Of The Cucumber (Alma)

'Moore on the Cucumber,' 'Ayres on the Cucumber,' 'Mills on the Cucumber,' and 'Cuthill on the Cucumber,' are all very useful manuals, published in a cheap pamphlet form. Probably the two former are out of print, but the two last can be obtained through any bookseller. The price of each would be about Is. or Is. 6d. For the cultivation of "Winter Cucumbers," see the volume of the ' Gardener' for 1868, page 385.
