At a recent meeting of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society Mr. J. B. Moore reported that the Wilder strawberry inherits from the Hovey the tendency to produce sterile plants. He went through his bed with a large knife and cut out all the sterile plants. If Mr. Moore had lived a quarter of a century ago and had made the suggestion that a variety of strawberry could, change its sex, his neighbor Mr. Hovey might have been found whetting his scalping-knife, or grinding his tomahawk with grim satisfaction at the approaching struggle.
