For those who want to have at the same time beautiful border flowers that will easily take care of themselves, and flowers that are very attractive to the bees, there is nothing better than the different kinds of bergamot, or, as we should say, Monarda. First there is an early and dwarf kind of Monarda fistulosa, known as M. mollis. By the time this is over the scarlet M. didyma comes in; it has several pretty varieties. In July to the 1st of August, the real old-fashioned bergamot, M. fistulosa, comes in. So that for over two months these will give a succession of bee-food and beauty.
