Thus far methylIsoeugenol has been found only in the oil from Asarum arifolium. Artificially it is obtained by the methy-lation of isoeugenol and by the inversion of methyleugenol. The following properties have been recorded:

It yields a characteristic dibromide, m. p. 101 to 102°, and can be oxidized to veratric acid.
