Dropsy - Formulary Of Selected Remedies General Treatment

4957

Diuretics are indicated in dropsy connected with disease of the heart, especially when accompanied by a scanty - secretion of high-colored urine. In inflammatory dropsy attendant on granular disease of the kidneys in particular, those of a stimulating nature are generally condemned. Cathartics, in dropsy connected with heart disease, should be used with great caution; they are particularly serviceable in dropsical affections connected with disease of the liver, and in strong subjects. Diaphoretic medicines are of use in renal dropsy chiefly by assisting the action of more active remedies. In chronic cases of renal disease, prescribe opium with caution.
